#BeeLoveContest - this is how it works

Discover the creative bumblebee in you, email us a photo and help save this endangered species. And of course: Share it on your social media channels and like our campaign.

The payoff is twofold: to raise awareness of these important pollinators and to prepare more wild bee hotels in Germany for next season. To thank you for your support, we are giving away kits and detailed instructions on how to build a bumblebee hotel! By providing a safe place to nest and overwinter, you will be helping to protect more than 560 species of wild bees in Germany.

How to participate:

1. photograph, draw, craft or bake bumblebees, get creative and surprise us!

2. send your photo to the following e-mail address: mail@beesandtrees.foundation to participate (please note the conditions of participation).

3. Alternatively, you can go to our Instagram account here and share your creative images with the hashtag #BeeLoveContest and tag our foundation @beesandtrees.foundation. Or you can send your picture via private message to our account.

Important contest information:

⏰ The contest starts on 17/07 and ends on Friday, 15/09/2023 at 11:59pm. Keep an eye out for when we mark the contest as closed here. 

🔎 Winners will be randomly selected from all entries.

💬 We will notify the winners on 18/09/2023. We will leave a comment under your post with the hashtag #BeeLoveContest or reply to your privately submitted pictures via email or direct message via Instagram.

🎁 If the winners do not respond within one month, the prize will be re-raffled.

During the sweepstakes period, we’ll also be telling you more about wild bee identification and the Bumblebee Hotel project. The Bumblebee Hotel was created to improve the increasingly difficult habitat for bumblebees and wild bees.

We place great emphasis on treating these creatures with respect and care. Please be considerate of their natural habitat and do not disturb them too much.

If you are taking photographs, please use your camera’s zoom function. Feel free to use our Instagram channel for creative inspiration.

Terms and conditions for online competitions

Conditions of participation 

1. Scope of application
These terms and conditions apply to all competitions organised by the Bees & Trees Foundation, Neuer Wall 63, 20354 Hamburg, Germany (hereinafter referred to as the “Promoter”). By participating, each participant accepts these terms and conditions.
This competition is not associated or affiliated with Instagram in any way. It is not sponsored, endorsed or organised by Instagram in any way and does not give rise to any claim against Instagram. All information related to this competition is provided solely by the Promoter.

2. Participation
2.1 The competition is open to any natural person aged 18 or over, acting in their own name.
2.2 Minors under the age of 18 are not eligible to participate.
2.3 The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify any person who breaches these terms and conditions or who obtains or intends to obtain an advantage over other participants by improperly influencing or manipulating the competition. In such cases, the Promoter may also subsequently exclude participants from the Competition, withdraw prizes and reclaim them.
2.4 Participation is only possible during the period specified in the competition description. Each participant may only participate once in the same competition.

3. Execution of the competition
3.1 To enter the competition you must do one of the following
– Post a photo using the hashtag #BeeLoveContest and tagging the Promoter (@beesandtrees.foundation).
– Send a private message to the organiser on Instagram
– or email the organiser at mail@beesandtrees.foundation
If there are any other requirements to enter the competition, these will be communicated directly when you enter the competition. The competition will run from 17.07. to 15.09.2023. All entrants to the competition who meet the requirements set out in sections 2 and 3 at the time of the relevant draw will be entered into the draw. Immediately after the closing date, the winner will be drawn at random from all participants.
3.2 The prize is a DIY kit for a wild bee hotel. The prize cannot be exchanged or paid in cash. The prize is non-transferable.

4. Prize processing
4.1 The winner will be notified electronically by the Promoter or will be notified below his entry. With respect to the prize, each entrant so notified is required to respond to the Organising Company within one month of the notification being sent and to provide the information necessary to ship the prize. If the Organising Company does not receive a response within this period, the possibility of accepting the prize shall be forfeited and the Organising Company reserves the right to select another entrant and notify him/her accordingly.
4.2 If the contact details provided by the entrant are incorrect (e.g. address), the Organising Company is not obliged to find out the correct details. Any disadvantages resulting from the provision of incorrect contact details (e.g. incorrect address) shall be borne by the entrant.

5. Liability for defects
The Promoter shall be liable for any loss suffered by the Winner as a result of defects in quality and/or title only in the event of wilful misconduct, intent or gross negligence. Otherwise, liability for defects as to quality and/or title is excluded.

6. Premature Termination, Adjustment or Modification of the Competition
The Promoter has the right to terminate, adjust or modify the Competition at any time without prior notice and without giving reasons if, for technical or legal reasons, the proper conduct of the Competition cannot be guaranteed without taking appropriate measures.

7. Applicable Law
All legal relationships between the parties shall be governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. In the case of consumers, this choice of law shall only apply to the extent that the protection granted is not withdrawn by mandatory provisions of the law of the country in which the consumer has his habitual residence.

The named controller is jointly responsible for the data processing on the Instagram fan page on which the competition is organised together with Meta (platform operator is Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd., 4 Grand Canal Square, Grand Canal Harbour, Dublin 2 Ireland) within the meaning of Art. 26 GDPR.
8.1 Processing of your personal data in the context of the competition
We process your personal data for the proper administration of the competition and, in particular, for the dispatch of the prize.
In order to run the competition, the profile name and, if available, the first name and surname of each entrant will be collected and stored. In order to send out the prize, we will also collect the winner’s first and last name and address and pass this information on to a shipping company appointed by us. Your data will not be passed on to third parties.
The legal basis for this processing of your personal data is Art. 6 par. 1 lit. b GDPR (implementation of pre-contractual measures and fulfilment of a contract).
If we publish the first and last name of the winner(s) separately on our profile or website, this will only be done with the prior express consent of the winner(s) in accordance with Art. 6 par. 1 lit. a GDPR.
8.2 Storage period
After the end of the competition, your personal data processed in connection with the competition will be deleted no later than three months after the end of the competition, unless you have consented to its further processing (e.g. for sending newsletters) and/or we no longer have a legitimate interest in storing it.
8.3 Your data subject rights
The applicable data protection law gives you the following rights as a data subject:
– Right to information pursuant to Art. 15 GDPR:
In particular, you have the right to obtain information about the personal data that we process, the purposes of the processing, the categories of personal data processed, the recipients or categories of recipients to whom the data have been or will be disclosed, the intended storage period or the criteria for determining the storage period, the existence of a right to rectification, erasure or restriction of processing, the existence of a right to rectification, erasure or restriction of processing, the existence of a right to object to processing, the existence of a right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, the origin of your data if they were not collected from you by us, the existence of any automated decision making, including profiling, and, if applicable, meaningful information on the logic involved and on the scope and intended effects of any such processing carried out with respect to you, as well as your right to be informed of the safeguards set out in Art. 46 GDPR in the event of a transfer of your data to third countries;
– Right to rectification pursuant to Art. 16 GDPR:
You have the right to have any inaccurate data relating to you corrected immediately and/or to have any incomplete data held by us completed;
– Right to erasure pursuant to Art. 17 GDPR:
You have the right to request the deletion of your personal data if the conditions of Art. 17 para. 1 GDPR are met. However, this right does not exist in particular if the processing is necessary for the exercise of the right to freedom of expression and information, for compliance with a legal obligation, for reasons of public interest or for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims;
– Right to restriction of processing pursuant to Art. 18 GDPR:
You have the right to request the restriction of the processing of your personal data while the accuracy of your data is being verified, if you object to the deletion of your data due to unlawful processing and instead request the restriction of the processing of your data, if you need your data for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims after we no longer need them for the purpose for which they were collected, or if you have raised an objection based on your particular situation, as long as it has not yet been determined whether our legitimate reasons prevail;
– Right to information in accordance with Art. 19 GDPR:
If you exercise your right to rectification, erasure or restriction of processing against the controller, the controller is obliged to inform all recipients to whom the personal data concerning you have been disclosed of such rectification, erasure or restriction, unless this proves impossible or involves a disproportionate effort. You have the right to be informed of these recipients;
– Right to data portability pursuant to Art. 20 GDPR:
You have the right to receive the personal data that you have provided to us in a structured, common and machine-readable format or to request that it be transferred to another controller where this is technically feasible;
– Right to revoke consent given in accordance with Art. 7 (3) GDPR:
You have the right to withdraw your consent to the processing of your data at any time with effect for the future. In the event of revocation, we will immediately delete the data concerned, unless further processing can be based on a legal basis for processing without consent. Withdrawal of consent shall not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out on the basis of the consent up to the time of withdrawal;
– Right to lodge a complaint pursuant to Art. 77 GDPR:
If you consider that the processing of personal data concerning you is in breach of the GDPR, you have the right, without prejudice to any other administrative or judicial remedy, to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the Member State where you reside or work or where the alleged breach took place.
